Why gut health is so important
Y’all… you know me. I’m a health and fitness coach, model, and trainer.. I live, eat, and breath health and wellness!
I eat healthy, drink tons of water and workout every day…
But I could never understand why my face never looked like I took care of myself?!?
I wasn’t taking into account there could be something out of whack with my gut until about 7 months ago.
I did, however, start to notice when I had a lot of dairy I felt inflamed and immediately my face would get flush..
Plus, I drank a ton of coffee which in the back of my mind I knew wasn’t good for me.
I tried to ignore this for as long as possible lol
BEFORE: 2019 - 2021 ON AND OFF HORRIBLE BREAKOUTS
AFTER: OCTOBER 2021 - NOW ESSENTIALLY NO BREAKOUTS, CLEAR, GLOWING SKIN
WHAT DID I DO?
🌱 I traded my 4 cups of coffee a day to the Arbonne detox tea + a fizz stick and I have WAY more energy from that than coffee.
🌱 I cut back significantly on dairy (unfortunately it’s just the way it is for me)
🌱 I cut out alcohol significantly (I was having ~ 2 bottles of wine a week) now I barely drink at all
🌱 I incorporated toxic free products inside and out that targets gut health
🌱 I’m conscious of brands of milks I buy because it was using ones with lots of oils and gums which affect your gut.
Gut-Skin Connection:
The foods we eat can impact our skin’s appearance and health. Research has shown that the gut microbiome has an impact on the skin.
For instance, by-products related to naturally occurring “good” bacteria can bind to receptors that inhibit inflammation and stimulate collagen synthesis. “Bad” bacteria can promote inflammation and cause a variety of illnesses.
Gut-Brain Connection:
The digestive system has a “second” brain, called the enteric nervous system. Comprised of more than 100 million nerve cells that line the gastrointestinal (GI) system from beginning to end, this system processes sensory information in the gut and transmits it to the brain, which then sends signals back to the gut to adjust its function. This interaction plays a role in our emotions, digestion and essential functions such as swallowing, breaking down food via enzyme release, nutrient absorption and elimination.
ANOTHER MAIN THING I CHANGED: MY MILK BRAND!
I have two protein shakes every single day..
and I was incorporating all the milks you should be avoiding! lol
As soon as I switched to a cleaner brand, my skin immediately cleared up!
Here are the best brands to choose from!
The perceived “healthier” option is indeed NOT healthier & this is why it’s so important to empower yourself by reading labels.
Many of these mills contain:
Gums: made to thicken the milk and cause gut issues
Flavoring: to hijack your taste buds, hence why so many people “can’t live” without certain milks in their coffees and drinks.
Preservatives: to keep them lasting long on shelves, maybe even longer than they should be preserved
Inflammatory oils that oxidize in the body if it hasn’t already through transportation and processing. Many of which like canola are treated with bleach and hexane.
Milk should be simple. Straight from an animal or just some nuts and water.
If you do consume dairy, raw is ideal and packed with nutrients but organic, grass fed, A2 milk options are also great 👍🏼
Stop fearing real dairy and start avoiding the fake processed junk they try to convince us is an equal alternative. It simply isn’t.
