Setting Goals
There are so many benefits to setting goals. Setting goals helps enforce healthy habits, trigger new behaviours, and guides your focus to create momentum in your life. It has been scientifically proven that setting goals affects performance by increasing the amount of effort someone puts into reaching that goal, which in turn increases the duration of how long they are willing to put the effort in as well. Setting the goals helps motivate, and goals being accomplished is not only satisfying but increases further motivation.
The best goals that have been proven to show the most results (ie.more likely to be achieved) have the following qualities:
Clarity- be clear and specific with what the goal is so there is no room for confusion. Try not to be generic.
Challenge- something that pushes you either mentally or physically, but stay reasonable.
Commitment- you need to commit fully to be able to achieve the goal, and put in the work needed.
Feedback- sometimes you need an outside eye to help guide you along the way.
Task Complexity- how complex is the task? How many smaller goals need to be reached before accomplishing the main one?
If there is no set goal, how can you manage your progress without having something to measure it to? Although goal setting will be a huge aid, it is not a sure proof way that those goals will be met in the time you want them, but that’s ok! Progress is progress, and with continued effort those goals will be met.
